My Diaper Bag Essentials

Being responsible for two little humans is a tough job! Bumps, scrapes, and owies are daily occurrences (especially with my 3 year old boy). While diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes are definitely must-haves in my diaper bag, I have also added some other essentials to get us through the day:

Lavender Essential Oil

This multi-purpose oil is a mom’s best friend. You may already know about Lavender’s relaxing and calming properties, but it can do so much more! It is such a gentle oil that you can apply it directly to your skin in a pinch. It can be used for scrapes, cuts and bruises of any kind and is a very gentle pain reliever. Apply straight to a burn for pain relief and healing or to take the sting out of bee and bug bites. It’s pretty incredible. No mom with young kids should be without this oil! I pack it in both a diluted roller bottle format and a small vial of the full strength oil for emergencies.

Zengest Essential Oil

A natural alternative to the dreaded pink stuff, this oil is for tummy/digestion problems of any kind. It can be rubbed directly on your stomach if you feel cramping or if you’re feeling nauseous, although no matter where you apply it on your body, it will be absorbed into your bloodstream and used where it is needed. This is truly the nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation, motion sickness and morning sickness oil! My son has a dairy sensitivity, so I always carry his roller bottle around just in case.

Correct-X Ointment

This all-natural ointment contains Frankincense, Helichrysm, Melaleuca, Cedarwood, and Lavender essential oils which help assist in soothing skin irritations. This multi-purpose ointment helps soothe skin, keep it clean, and help it recover from distress. I apply this to my preschooler’s cuts and scrapes directly after I clean them.

On Guard Hand Sanitizer

I make up a handy little spray bottle with 15 drops of On Guard essential oil, a tsp of witch hazel and distilled water. So great for on the run hand cleaning when soap and a sink aren’t nearby. On Guard is an essential oil blend that supports a healthy immune system and has been proven to kill germs and bacteria!

Teething Roller Bottle

It seems like babies are constantly teething from 3 months to 2 years old. For that reason, I always tote around my teething roller bottle. For little babies I pre-mix Roman Chamomile, Lavender, and White Fir essential oils and use 1 drop in 10ml of carrier oil. When baby is fussy, I roll it onto her jawline to help soothe the pain.

TerraShield Outdoor Blend

I make a spray bottle of the TerraShield essential oil blend to keep the pests away when we’re playing outside. While the bugs aren’t too bad during the day, it doesn’t hurt to have this on hand for evening park sessions.

Peppermint Beadlets

For Mom/Dad. These beadlets contain 1/3 of one drop of peppermint essential oil and are fantastic for an afternoon pick-me-ups, digestion, or for freshening breath after a much needed coffee.

While it may seem like a lot of extras, they don’t take up a lot space and are handy when you need them! Wondering which brand of essential oils I use? Check them out here. What are your diaper bag must-haves?
